Lacustrine (System)

Unique Identifier: 3

System Lacustrine
Subsystem Lacustrine Limnetic
Lacustrine Littoral

Definition The CMECS Lacustrine System includes (a) all deepwater areas of the Great Lakes and (b) shoreline areas of the Great Lakes with less than 30 percent areal coverage by trees, shrubs, and persistent emergents. In areas with a greater percentage of vegetative cover, the appropriate Palustrine FGDC-STD-004 should be used for classification. Where a river enters or leaves a lake, the extension of the lacustrine shoreline forms the riverine-lacustrine boundary.
