Description
Definition Areas dominated by attached chitons, gastropod-like mollusks with eight calcareous dorsal plates (valves), a broad foot for attachment to hard substrates, and a scraping radula for feeding. Several species can reach high abundances on intertidal or subtidal rocks. Some chitons will create a depression in rock substrate for improved protection; however, they are classified here as Chitons, rather than above as Mineral Boring Fauna.
