and platforms, and pens and enclosures (both at the surface and submerged). These
structures are associated with the cultivation of fish, crustaceans, and shellfish
for human use or consumption. They may be integrated into shallow water bays and ponds,
or they may be deployed in deeper water. Due to their structural aspects, they can
be attractive to fish and other animals. They are often sources of nutrients and,
thus, have impacts on the surrounding ecology.
