Definition Areas dominated by stylasterid corals. A number of stylasterid coral species (Class: Hydrozoa; Order: Anthoathecatae; Family: Stylasteridae) form smaller branching colonies that can dominate certain habitats, primarily in deeper, colder waters. Stylasterid coral reefs often predominate on oceanic islands, seamounts, and archipelagos (Cairns 1992).
