Definition Areas dominated by dense accumulations of mussels attached to a substrate other than conspecifics. This group includes associated faunal communities and predators on mussels (e.g., starfish), which may be highly conspicuous. Areas where mussels have constructed substrate are classified as Mussel Reef. Areas where mussels are not attached to a hard substrate are classified as Soft Sediment Fauna, Mussel Bed.
