Definition These are narrow passages between, and in association with, pavement formations commonly oriented perpendicular to the shore. The bottoms of these channels normally consist of sand or other unconsolidated mineral substrates. They occur in areas of moderate wave surge and have low vertical relief as compared to spur-and-groove formations.
